The long wait is over, a baby boy is born and we have named him Gideon. Although Gideon is the third child we have brought into our home this year, he was actually the first one that we had information about. While Gideon was getting ready to be born, we learned about Koko, who is 6, and Genesis who was born in September.
We found about Gideon through the hill tribe grapevine. We were told that a very poor couple whom already had four children (the oldest already 20) was struggling with the fact that they were going to have one more mouth to feed. This family owns no property; the one room hut they live in is on a strip of dirt owned by the father’s sister. The family gets by on whatever seasonal work they can find to do. One more child, with all the extra work and expense required, was more than they could bear. The couple began to consider abortion.
Anchalee and I feel very blessed to have been in a position to offer a better solution to these people. We asked them if it was okay if the baby would be raised in our home. They were very happy to accept. We kept in contact with the family during the pregnancy. We made sure the mom got proper medical exams, and we provided her with food supplements and vitamins. The mom was very thin and commonly had no appetite. With a little help she was eating well and the last time we visited we could hardly recognize her for the weight she had gained.
All of this must have been good for the baby as Gideon was the largest baby she has given birth to (3.5kg). This was a bit of a surprise for us because the father is just a little over 4 feet tall, and the mom is not a lot taller than that.
The birth was natural and there were no complications. We were able to bring Gideon home a day early. Gideon seems to be quite comfortable in his new surroundings; he sleeps a lot and then hollers for more food. It’s what babies do.
We would like to thank our supporters who are responsible for enabling us in our vision of helping kids from difficult situations to get a second chance.
We are definitely fully into this project, and there is nowhere to go but from glory to glory. Please encourage others to consider monthly support of this ministry. We really would love to improve the future for many more kids.
God bless you all
Kim, Anchalee, Koko, Genesis, and Gideon.
